The Nativity Story is not getting good reviews from non Christian (at least publicly Christian) 
critics. www.rottentomatoes.com has an average review of 4.4/10. Comments such as "One of the greatest stories ever told has become one of the year's worst movies." and "'When You Care Enough to Send the Very Best'...the film has all the substance, visual appeal, and excitement of a Hallmark card."

I just saw the movie and I really liked it. Perhaps is the way I see movies; that is, I just go with the story...perhaps it is also because I am a Christian...
I would agree that the movie is not Oscar Material but the story, the scenery and historical aspects are terrific.
Definitely don't skip Church to go and see it!
