How Did Methuselah Die?

One of the favorite characters in the Old Testament is Methuselah, who lived 969 years (Genesis 5:27), longer than anyone else recorded. His father was Enoch, of whom it is said he "walked with God" (5:24) but who was taken to heaven without dying at 365 years. Methuselah's son Lamech died a few years before the Flood at 777 years (5:31) after bearing Noah.

Why is the Church so eager to accept homosexuality as okay?

Oliver "Buzz" Thomas writes "Galileo was persecuted for revealing what we now know to be the truth regarding Earth’s place in our solar system. Today, the issue is homosexuality, and the persecution is not of one man but of millions. Will Christian leaders once again be on the wrong side of history? " here.  He goes on in his "defense" of homosexuality:

Contrary to the biblical assumption...

Andrew Sullivan pointed me to this article this morning US Jewish Movement moves to allow gay Rabbis. 

"While the topic may be couched in gay rabbis and same-sex unions, the crux of the issue really is "how one views homosexual behaviour," Meyers said in an interview."

"is not something that came down from the top. It came from Jews in the pews ... Jews who had homosexual children and wanted them to be rabbis."

And the phrase that scares me the most:

"Conservative Judaism has always taught that we must upgrade our biblical understanding with new scientific knowledge. Contrary to the biblical assumption that gayness is a sinful choice, our best knowledge today indicates that it is as determined and irrevocable as blue or brown eyes ..."

Morning thoughts

During my normal commute to the office this morning I was struck by the beauty of the snow covered city.  It looked so clean, so pure.  However, a few minutes into the city I found it looked very dirty. 

This reminded me of society today and it's contrast to the Gospel.  Many world views push the belief that people are good, beautiful and pure.  But if we look at society, if we work in society, we see that people are dirty.  There is nothing white about us.

This is part of what I love about the Gospel, I can say I am dirty, I can shout it out and all Christians can do is agree with me, as they are dirty too.  Then we can pray, and ask for forgiveness and know that we are restored through Jesus and one day, one great day, we will be white as snow. 

No matter what the view point.

Synod of Dordrecht Poster

The Synod of Dordrecht is important because of its strategic importance in the Reformed tradition. It was at this synod in 1618-1619 where the Dutch Reformed Church issued its response to Jacob Arminius and his followers, the Remonstrants. A common summary of this response has since been given the nick-name "The Five Points of Calvinism." The Canons of Dordt continue to be one of the three forms of unity used by Dutch Reformed Churches today..

Who was Jesus

In a communist Russian dictionary, Jesus is described as "a mythical figure who never existed." Of course, no serious historian could hold to that position today. The evidence is overwhelming as to the fact that Jesus existed, not just from the Gospels and other Christian literature around the first century, but also from non-Christian sources.
